Managing automation templates

How to manage templates with the automation template list (Pulse Pro)

Updated over 3 months ago

About automation templates

Automation templates are globally managed by users (commonly admins and managers) with the appropriate capabilities. The template itself does not perform any actions; it serves as the foundation for creating the instances. Settings defined in a template are synchronized with instances based on that template, except when a specific setting in an instance has been overridden. This means that any changes made to a setting in the template will automatically apply to all instances derived from the template.

To manage automation templates, go to Site administration > Plugins > Pulse > Automation templates.

Automation template list

The area automation templates provides an overview of all existing templates in list form, including their most important attributes and settings. You can organize them through sorting and course category-based filtering, edit them, or create new templates. Below the template list, you will find a legend that explains the attributes and controls displayed in this section. The functionality of these attributes and controls is detailed below.

Create new template

Clicking ‘Create a new template’ will open the editor for creating a new automation template.

Sort

Clicking ‘Sort’ will organize the template list descending alphabetically by the reference parameter, another click will reverse the order. Reset table preferences will reorder the list based on the template’s IDs and deactivate set filters.

Filter

Clicking on the filter icon opens a modal window in which the template list can be filtered by course categories. The standard is set to “All” so automation templates of all course categories will be displayed.

Template icon

The bell icon represents notification as the enabled action in the automation template.

Template title

The title of the automation template should provide a short explanation of its purpose.

Notification pills

Notification pills can provide additional information about the automation template.

Reference

The reference is a unique identifier for the automation template. It serves as the prefix for all references to its associated automation instances.

Edit settings

The gear icon allows you to edit the automation template.

Number of instances

The number badge shows how many instances are dependent on the automation template. In brackets, the number of dependent but disabled instances is indicated.

Visibility

The eye icon shows and allows you to change the visibility status of the automation template. A hidden template will not be visible within courses, meaning no new instances can be created from it. However, existing automation instances will remain accessible.

Status

The toggle shows and allows you to change the status of the automation template. Clicking it opens a modal window that gives you the option to either update the template or update the template and all dependent instances. When updating all dependent instances, their status will be changed accordingly, even if they have a local override activated.

Delete

The bin icon allows you to delete an automation template. Please be cautious, as deleting a template will remove all dependent instances, and neither the template nor the instances can be recovered once the deletion is confirmed.
