Streamlining course creation and rollout with Kickstart

Reduce the workload for course creators and teachers while ensuring consistent course structure across your Moodle site.

Automatic course creation in bulk

If you're using an automated course rollout, set the Kickstart course format as the default for new courses. This setting can be found under:

Site administration > Courses > Default settings > Course default settings

By doing this, every newly created course will immediately benefit from the student view, and teachers are encouraged to use a template. Even when courses are created in bulk and teachers haven’t yet added content, Kickstart ensures there's always something meaningful visible to enrolled students.

This setting applies not only to automated rollouts but to all courses created going forward.

Force all users to use the Kickstart course creator

To simplify and standardize the course creation process, enable course creator redirect in the Kickstart general settings. This ensures that all users are redirected to the Kickstart course creator when creating a new course.

The streamlined interface focuses on the essentials and is the most efficient way for users to set up new courses. Courses created this way use the Kickstart format.

Manage access to templates

To keep the template overview for each user and environment clean and ensure templates are only used as intended, limit access based on:

  • Cohorts

  • Categories

  • Roles

  • Specific users

Additionally, enable automatic template import: if a user only has access to a single course template, it will be applied automatically. This further simplifies the workflow by eliminating the need to select a template during course creation.
