Updating plugins

Update bdecent plugins manually to ensure matching versions.

Updated over a month ago

How to update a plugin

We suggest always updating our plugins manually. This way, you ensure that all related components are installed in matching versions, keeping everything running smoothly.

  1. Download the latest plugin files from your bdecent account.

  2. Install all related components together so their versions match.

By following this method, you’ll always have a perfectly matched and fully compatible plugin set.

Note: This is a very simplified description of updating plugins.
Due to the individual architecture of some plugins, additional steps or considerations may be necessary. Always check plugin-specific installation instructions if available.

Why not use Moodle’s automatic update

Moodle may notify you when a new plugin version is available – and that’s helpful to know. However, please don’t update directly with Moodle's automatic update option. Automatic updates might replace only one part of a plugin, which can lead to errors or unexpected behavior. If a plugin has multiple components, they must all be updated together to ensure they continue working correctly.

Use the files you’ve manually downloaded from your bdecent account rather than the automatic update offered by Moodle. This way, all components remain in sync and your plugins work exactly as intended.

Tips for updating plugins

  • Check Moodle version compatibility:
Always verify that the plugin version is compatible with your current Moodle version before installing or updating.

  • Use a test site:
It is highly recommended to first install and test updates on a separate test site before applying them to your production site. This is considered best practice to avoid unexpected issues.
