Available settings
How the question behaves
This setting determines how embedded questions behave by default. The following options are available:
Adaptive mode – Users can attempt the question multiple times, with immediate feedback and grading updates after each try.
Adaptive mode (no penalties) – Same as above, but without score reductions for incorrect attempts.
Deferred feedback – Feedback is given only after the entire activity is submitted.
Deferred feedback with CBM – Adds confidence-based marking to deferred feedback.
Immediate feedback – Feedback is shown immediately after the user submits an answer.
Immediate feedback with CBM – Combines immediate feedback with confidence-based marking.
Interactive with multiple tries – Users can try the question again after feedback, possibly with hints or penalties.
Mandatory
Define whether a question must be completed before the next element in the sequence becomes visible.
Yes – Users must complete this element before continuing.
No – Users can skip this element; the next one will be shown regardless.
Whether correct
Controls whether the system should visually indicate if a response is correct, partially correct, or incorrect.
This affects both text indicators and any visual cues (e.g. green/red highlighting).Marks
Configure whether to display numerical scores in embedded questions.

Show max mark only
Show mark and max
Decimal places
Select how many decimal places should be shown for grades in embedded questions.
Specific feedback
Toggle whether specific feedback tied to a student’s exact response is displayed by default.
General
Enable or disable general feedback for embedded questions. This feedback is independent of the user's chosen answer and often explains the reasoning behind the correct answer.
Right answer
Decide whether the automatically generated correct answer should be shown. It’s generally recommended not to use this setting, and instead, encourage authors to provide information manually in the general feedback section.
Response
Choose whether to show a response history table by default.
Force language
This standard Moodle setting lets administrators define whether the question interface should enforce a specific language.
The settings you can configure at the activity level are explained in the article about questions in Content Designer.
