Manage templates in Kickstart

How to manage Kickstart templates

Updated over a month ago

This section allows site administrators to define and control which course templates are available to course creators. These templates are offered during the course creation process when using Kickstart. All installed course formats are available as course templates by default.

You can find this section under Site administration > Course formats > Kickstart format > Manage templates.

Available information in the template table

The page displays a list of all configured templates, each shown with the following details:

  • Title

The name of the template as it appears to users.

  • Description

    A short description, if provided.

  • Tags

Tags associated with the template, if provided.

Available actions in the template table

  • Create a new template

Click Create template to open the settings of a new template.

  • Show or hide individual templates

Use the eye icon to enable or disable each template without uninstalling it.

  • Change template order

Use the arrow icons to reorder the list. This order is reflected in the template area when creating a course with Kickstart.

  • Edit a template

Click Edit to open the settings for the template.

  • Delete a template

Click Delete to remove the template completely. A template cannot be recovered once the deletion is confirmed.

Installed course formats cannot be deleted here.

Note: Editing or deleting a template does not affect courses already created from it.

Exporting the table

At the bottom of the table, you can download the template table in various formats. Choose the export format and click Download.

Preferences for this report

You can adjust the page size of the table. This controls how many templates are displayed per page.

Best practices

  • Disable templates that are under revision rather than deleting them.

  • Use clear titles and short descriptions to help users identify the right template.

  • Keep commonly used templates at the top of the list using the reorder arrows.
