Course library sort weight settings in Kickstart

How to configure the weighting of different categories for sorting courses by relevance (Pro only)

Updated over 2 months ago

The course library sorts available courses by relevance by default. You can control how this relevance is calculated using the following weight settings.

Each setting defines how much a specific course property influences the sort order. Values range from 0 (not considered) to 10 (most important). You find these settings by going to Site administration > Plugins > Course formats > Kickstart format > General settings.

Available parameters

  • Course full name weight

Controls how similar course names affect relevance.

Set a higher value if your course naming conventions are meaningful and consistent.

  • Course short name weight

Relevance based on course short name.

Set a higher value if short names include structured identifiers such as department codes or academic years.

  • Course tags weight

    Relevance based on shared tags.
Set a higher value if tags are used consistently across the site.

  • Starred course weight

    Prioritize starred courses.
Increase this value to give users greater influence over which courses are considered most relevant to them.

Tips for configuring weights

  • Assign 0 to any criteria you don’t want included in the sort.

  • Use higher values (e.g. 8–10) for fields that strongly indicate relevance in your course setup.
